Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA): If foreign imports or free trade have affected your job, In Nevada the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s Employment Security Division administers the U.S. Department of Labor’s program designed to assist individuals who are unemployed as a result of foreign imports or free trade. The program, Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA), helps dislocated workers find suitable employment at an equal or higher skill level. How the program works . . . First a petition must be filed through any Nevada JobConnect office. Petitions may be filed by a group of three or more affected workers; their union; employer; or an authorized representative of Nevada's dislocated worker's unit; or any partner agency in the state's work force investment system such as:
Once a petition has been approved and certified, workers should file individual applications seeking eligibility for training, employment services, and TRA (a kind of Unemployment Insurance benefit).
When an individual worker's
eligibility has been established for participation in the program,
services for that person are determined on an individual basis.
Anyone who feels they may qualify for the Trade Act program should immediately contact the nearest Nevada JobConnect office to begin the application process. Eligibility for benefits provided under this program is determined by federal law and administered by the DOL through the DETR’s Employment Security Division.
