Notification Letter Dear Employer: The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, Public Law 100-379, became law on February 4, 1989. The law requires employers with 100 or more workers give 60 days’ advance notice to workers involved in a plant closing or mass layoff. The WARN Act also requires notice be provided to the chief elected official of the affected area and the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. Employers facing impending closure or worker layoffs must provide advance written notice to affected workers, state officials, local governments, and union representatives. The document must be written in simple English and contain the following information:
If you employ 100 or more full-time workers, you may be liable under the WARN Act. The layoff or closure information you provide will be kept in strict confidence and should be submitted to: Department

&
Rehabilitation The Department of Employment, Training & Rehabilitation has established a "Rapid Response Team" to assist employers and their employees during a mass layoff or closure. Prompt notice allows workers to receive services at the earliest possible time and may shorten the duration of the unemployment. The employer benefits because employer contributions to Unemployment Insurance are reduced as displaced workers quickly obtain new jobs. An overview of the WARN legislation and a copy of the Act are enclosed. If you have any questions or would like additional information, contact me at the above address or telephone number. Sincerely,
